Here’s an excerpt… If you are a small investor who wants to meet your long-term investment goals, to minimize risk and to save the time and expense of researching stocks for yourself, an Index Fund is the ideal investment vehicle. Index Funds allow average people to participate intelligently in the stock market. If you have only $100 to invest, you can still buy shares in an Index Fund. People invest in Index Funds because they believe that stock markets are efficient and that stock-pickers on average will not do as well as the market. When you consider that other mutual funds, those with active managers, often do not perform as well as Index Funds, you can see why many small investors buy Index Funds. Here we answer your questions. What actually is a stock Index? What is an Index Fund? Is an Index Fund a good investment for you? How much does it cost to buy an Index Fund? How much will an Index Fund earn for you? How do you buy shares in an Index Fund? Which Index Fund should you buy? Finally, what are the tax considerations when you buy an Index Fund?”

Of course the result of the opposite orientation is fighting. In my Financial Peace University class, Dave Ramsey mentions that money is the number one reason couples fight (and in some cases divorce). So what do you do once you fall in love with a financial opposite and marry?”

This will become even more likely once President Obama’s CARD Act goes into effect in 2010, requiring anyone under age 21 applying for a credit card to have a cosigner if they don’t have sufficient income. Often, the person asking is a family member or friend that you may find it hard to turn down. Malaysian Insurance Firms To Cover Claims Relating From Influenza A (H1N1)
The insurance companies in Malaysia has made a joint-statement that it will cover claims relating from A (H1N1) influenza. These claims can include treatment and hospitalisation cost and death arising from A (H1N1) Influenza.
Source and credit: Shaun Ho from The Star Online
Insurance companies have decided to allow payouts on claims for treatment, hospitalisation and death as a result of Influenza A(H1N1).
The Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) said yesterday that its 16 member companies would honour such claims.
Its president, Md Adnan Md Zain said policyholders could contact their respective insurance companies for further details.
“Even though a majority of medical policies carry exclusions on communicable diseases requiring quarantine by law, life insurers are responding to an immediate need of the nation in light of the increasing number of people who have been infected,” said Md Adnan.
“In the event of any review of this decision on life insurance coverage, the policyholders will be duly informed,” he added.
On Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin told insurance companies to explain clearly whether those infect-ed with Influenza A(H1N1) could make claims for treatment, hospitalisation and in the event of death.
Etiqa Insurance Berhad said it would be paying out on claims made by its medical and health plan policyholders if they are hospitalised for A(H1N1).
Great Eastern Life Assurances Berhad and Overseas Assurances Corporation (Malaysia) Berhad also released statements saying their companies would compensate policyholders hospitalised for treatment of the disease.
An ING Malaysia agent said the guidelines on claims varied for different policies but the company generally covered hospitalisation claims for those with the illness.

Is Your Medical and Health Insurance Policy Covering You On The Influenza A (H1N1) Pandemic?
Since H1N1 related sickness and deaths are increasing day by day, you should check whether your medical & health insurance policy provides cover for H1N1.
Here are few things that you can do to check whether H1N1 pandemic is covered
1. Check out the policy wordings of your medical & health insurance.
Now, this can be a little bit tricky. Unless you’re a lawyer or working in an insurance company or is quite familiar with insurance, this can be tough. (I mean, who actually reads the policy or contracts when you sign for insurance right? Only when there’s a claim to be made people will scurry to the contract and pray hard the claim is covered).
But if you want to have a go, you should refer to the “Exclusions” provision. This is where it is spelt out on the conditions that your medical & health insurance will not cover.
Most of the time, pandemics are not listed as one of the exclusions, hence, your medical & health insurance should provide coverage on H1N1 related illness. (Phew!). But some contracts may have some exclusions when it comes to pregnancy or pregnancy related sickness, so if you’re pregnant, you should check further whether you’ll be covered if H1N1 strikes.
2. Call up your insurance company
This would remove all doubt as you’ll be hearing it directly from the source on whether you’re covered or not. The drawback is that when you call them up, you would most probably get to talk to their customer service representative, who may already have a scripted answer for that question, which would probably tell you nothing much. If that’s the case, you should insist on them to provide you with a definitive answer. Let them call up their claims personnel and to call you back.
3. Call up your insurance agent
You’ve been giving your agent a lot of commissions already. Now let him do more work for you. This should be the easiest thing to do. Let your agent find the details for you and he can let you know in more detail.
If your agent can’t do that for you, then maybe it’s a good time to look for a new agent.
4. Claiming when you’re abroad
This is something important that not too many people are aware of. Let’s say if you go to a different country say, U.S. and you got infected by H1N1 and you’re treated over there. If you make a claim to your medical & health insurance, the insurance company may only pay back the amount on what is a normal and customary amount should the treatment is done locally.
For example, if the treatment in U.S may cost your 10,000 dollars, and that same treatment may only cost 6,000 dollars in your country, then your insurance company may only pay you 6,000 dollars (leaving you with 4,000 to bear on your own)
This situation is not specific to H1N1 but to all types of treatment abroad. So before you go abroad, you should check with your insurance company or agent about this.
Conclusion
Your medical & health insurance policy would probably cover you if the H1N1 virus strikes you. But to be safe and sure, it’s best that you find it out for certain.

10 Powerful Steps For A Financially Sound Retirement
In this post, Jonathan Leane of Debt Loans has listed out 10 powerful ways for us to be financially sound when we retire.
Everyone wants to retire early and rich. Perhaps your dream is to travel the states in an RV or maybe you want to be able to retire in the country with a porch swing, a pond, and an art studio. Whatever your retirement dream is, here are ten tips to make sure that your retirement is as comfortable as possible.
Step 1 – Save, save & save!
Remember this piece of advice: If you want to be rich, it isn’t about how much you make, it’s about how much you keep. Think of that sentence each time you have a “want” that isn’t in your budget. Keeping up with the Jones will not get you where you want to be when you retire.
Step 2 – Budget to include savings for retirement
There really is no better system for keeping a handle on how much you have and how much you save. Make sure your income minus your expenses every month is equal to zero. Work with your spouse or partner on this together. Once you make a budget, stick to it. That means no impulse buying of seasonal placemats on a run to Target for toothpaste (nor should you purchase that new home theater system you see on sale in the store while you’re picking up diapers). Plan every cent that will be spent that month and stick to the plan. Saving just $150 a month at a 10% annual rate of return for 40 years will give you just under $900,000. That’s the same as saving five-dollars a day.
Step 3 – Cut down on the little expenses
Need help cutting down on expenses? David Bach, author of Smart Couples Finish Rich, suggests watching your “Latte Factor.” This is the amount per year that one spends on unnecessary purchases such as a Latte. Track spending for one week. Take a look at the smallest expenses – the candy bar from the vending machine, the latte, that muffin you picked up on your break from work. You can plug these figures into the Latte Factor calculator on the Finish Rich website to see how much money you could make if you avoid these little temptations every day.
Step 4 – Get out of debt as soon as you can
Nothing eats a hole in your dreams like owing money to a high interest credit card company or treading water each month just to stay afloat. Dave Ramsey, in his book Total Money Makeover, advises those working to get out of debt to avoid debt consolidation loans. Rather than consolidate loans, he advises that first debtors set aside a $1,000 emergency fund while continuing to make minimum payments on credit cards. Once you’ve established this fund, then it’s time to begin to pay off cards from the lowest to highest balance. Only take out a debt loan if you are in desperate need and you trust yourself not to dig a deeper hole.
Step 5 – Start saving your money for a rainy day.
Remember that emergency fund you started before you began to get out of debt? Build on it. Make sure you have enough liquid assets to live for 6-12 months if either yourself or your spouse became unemployed, injured, or some other emergency confronted you. This way, you will not go back into debt when faced with the unexpected.
Step 6 – Use insurance to protect your finances
There is no better way to safeguard your finances than to purchase insurance. At a bare minimum you should have health insurance, auto insurance, disability insurance (especially if you are self employed) and if you have dependents, life insurance.
Step 7 – Pay off your mortgage loan as soon as you can
The best way to do this is to refinance at a lower interest rate for a 15-year fixed mortgage. In addition, once you knock out your debt, you can make double payments on your home loan. By paying off your mortgage sooner, you can save yourself thousands upon thousands of dollars of interest – and put that money towards your retirement.
Step 8 – Max out your retirement savings plan
If your company offers a 401(K) plan, take advantage of it. This plan allows you to save for your retirement by depositing savings and deferring income taxes. Often, your company will match the amount you set aside in your 401(K) plan. Let this money grow. If your company does not offer a 401(K) plan, or if you are self-employed, open an IRA account and put money away in there. There are two types of IRA accounts – Traditional IRAs and Roth IRAs. A Traditional IRA offers various tax advantages for putting money away for your retirement. Some contributions may be tax deductable and often your contributions will not be taxed until they are distributed. A Roth IRA has similar rules but if you qualify, your contributions will be tax-free. The sooner you start saving, the more compound interest you will receive over the time of the account.
Step 9 – Prioritize your money for your future and retirement
When you get a raise, instead of purchasing a bigger house or more stuff, sock the additional amount away in savings. Imagine your raise is an additional $400 a month. If you are out of debt and invest this amount plus your latte factor of $150 a month consistently with a 10% annual return, after 30 years you would have 1.2 million dollars and after 40 years you would have3.2 million dollars. Do you still want that big screen TV or that new car?
Step 10 – Seek out a financial advisor to optimize your financial plans for retirement
A good financial advisor can help you plan for future goals and retirement. Make sure you know what your goals are between now and retirement (Do you have children to send to college? Do you want to go back to school yourself?) and be sure you are honest with the advisor about your current situation.
By following these ten tips, you can be well on your way to enjoying your retirement dreams – no matter what those dreams involve.
